‘If I have found favour in your eyes, accept this gift from me. For to see your face is like seeing the face of God, now that you have received me favourably. Jacob has changed. The person who was willing to extort his brothers birthright and lie to his father to steal his blessing has since encountered God and has been humbled. He recognises everything he has is a gift from God.
Encountering God changes everything. That includes attitudes to possessions and other people.
When I have encountered God I will approach people humbly and respectfully, no longer thinking about how I can manipulate them to my advantage. I will be generous with my possessions when I realise they don't belong to me in the first place.
