Jacob dreams of a staircase, with angels ascending and descending on it. A place where Earth and Heaven meet, and where God pronounces his blessing on Jacob who is currently on the run because of his own sin.
Jesus applies this image to himself in John 1 when he says:
[Jesus] added, “Very truly I tell you, you will see ‘heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on’ the Son of Man.”John 1:51Jesus is the place where Heaven meets Earth. Jesus is the place where God pronounces his blessing on me, who is lost in the consequences of my own sin
I live my life as if trying to climb a staircase to heaven. That's not how it works. Jesus is the staircase and he came down to where I am because I could never get up.
