Genesis Six

The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them. But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
Genesis 6:5-8

Sin is not just about actions but also about the motives behind those actions. The inclinations of human hearts are naturally self-centred rather than God-centred. Rejecting the Author of Life leads to death. But, in the face of that judgement, there is a glimpse of grace - God is gracious to Noah and is going to save him

When I look at my own selfish heart, in the surroundings of a sin-corrupted world, my only hope is God's grace

Sometimes I don't spend time helping someone because I selfishly want the time for myself. Sometimes I do help that person but the inclination of my heart is still selfish because I've done it for recognition or to manipulate a situation. This is my life and the end result is death.

But God is gracious, and I have hope in his rescue
