Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.

A branch bearing no fruit shows it is not connected to the vine. There's no such thing as nominal Christianity here - if you're a branch in name only but not doing what a branch does then you are not part of the vine anymore. There is no such thing as a christian with no fruit. You might be struggling, it might be difficult to see much fruit, but if Jesus has had no effect at all on your life, then it’s likely that you’re confused about what it means to be a christian.
