He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” Peter said to him, “You shall never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.”
(John 13:6-8)
It takes humility to receive service. If you're anything like me you would prefer to serve rather than ask for help. We never want to ask for help but how can the church love and serve each other if none of us are willing to receive that service? More than that, receiving service goes right to the heart of Christianity. The primary identity of a Christian is not some who serves God, but someone who has been served by God. Jesus helps us because we can not help ourselves.
