"Until you actually experience something outside of your own control, it’s easy to trust God. It’s easy to trust him when everything happens exactly as you want it to when you want it to. Until something happens (or, in this case, does not happen) outside of your control, you haven’t really been challenged to trust God. Then it’s a shock to realize how little you do. Do you really believe God knows best when you’re approaching 37 and everyone else is working on their second, third or fourth child? It’s easy to say you trust God, but it takes a lot longer to actually mean it—and mean it to the point where you can honestly say that whatever God’s will is, you are content to accept it. And while this end point is the Lord’s work, you also have to work hard to get there. There is no way to circumvent or hasten the learning process."
